Children & Youth Ministry

"Jesus called for them and said, 'Let the little children come to me, and do not stop them; for it is to such as these that the kingdom of God belongs'" -- Luke 18:16.

Children are precious to God; children, along with their parents, are precious to us.

We seek to have the children of our church family experience the love and grace of God by how we adults interact with them – having them see our smiles when they enter, welcoming them, learning their names, including them in worship with a special time just for them to hear about God, to have a treat, and to have a time to be encouraged and nourished in their journey of faith in Sunday School.

JAM (Jesus And Me) is an additional program for our kids from infant and pre-school through 6th grade. The program takes place every Wednesday, following the school calendar, beginning with a homemade dinner at 5:30pm, music and creative exposure to the Gospel from 6pm – 7pm. (There are options for adult fellowship as well during JAM.)

In addition to JAM for those in elementary, there are special events once a month on Sundays following worship. These events have included bowling, ice-skating, making Christmas cookies and Easter eggs to give to residents at local care facilities.

Excellent Feature: Students from Penn State, Altoona, will be working with our kids and sparking the program again this year!

Our Youth Group, for kids in junior and senior high school, meet twice a month for fellowship, usually following Sunday worship, from 11:30am – 1pm.

Other activities have included Lock-Ins, hiking the 1000 Steps, going on learning/mission trips to NYC and DC, participating in service projects, kayaking on the Juniata River.

Laura Wray has served as our exceptional PT youth worker for the past four years. Laura has special gifts and abilities in connecting with kids with high energy, good humor, compassion and understanding, and deep faith commitment. As Laura and Jake are expecting their first child in January, we’re also hoping to have students from Penn State, Altoona, be additional youth workers with our youth group as well this year.

We’re hoping to take the senior high youth on a fantastic mission trip (summer, 2015) to Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota, stopping to see Mount Rushmore and Wounded Knee along the way.
